getting here - ocean's edge, Mevagissey

Road
Fall off the end of the M5 and follow either the A30 or the A38 – at this point take a chill-pill – as both roads can be slow. Head for St.Austell and once through the town, turn left by Pizza Hut for Mevagissey.

Ocean’s edge is located on Polkirt Hill which is to the southside of Mevagissey. At busy times of the day , we suggest that you don't try to drive through the village as there is an extremely narrow road which can get very quickly blocked with no-one willing to reverse back up. It’s very amusing for locals and pedestrians to watch but not what you want at the end of a long journey! Please be aware that both your satnav and any route directions that you print off from the internet (www.theaa.com) will try and take you through the village. We would suggest that you take the long way around the first time , as follows......

Instead, when you are on the road from St.Austell, as soon as you are past the Pentewan Sands Holiday park, turn right towards Portmellon, Gorran Head and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Follow this road around past Heligan [on your LHS] and keep going towards Gorran . Once you have gone through Gorran, turn left towards Gorran Haven and Portmellon. You will go down a steep hill into Portmellon. Just before The Rising Sun pub turn left and follow this road around going up a hill. After a couple of minutes you will see a sign for “Mevagissey” – you are now on Polkirt Hill. Keep going [slowly!] past the Treleon Appartments on your RHS and directly opposite the Wild Air guest house just before a 10ton road sign, turn a sharp right into the car park for Nare Court. Ocean’s edge is number 6 and you want to park in bay “C” .The apartment is accessed over the bridge on the right [with your back to the carpark bays] and its down a dogleg staircase.

If you do decide to drive through Mevagissey then follow the signs through the village towards Portmellon . This will take you up a very steep hill [Polkirt Hill] and once you are at the top you will see a sign for Nare Court on your lefthandside opposite the Wild Air guesthouse. Turn left into the car park.
